Maitake is a slow growing mushroom and will take upto 3 months to fruit. Its also a weak competitor and most contamination can outcompete it.Therefore its very important to grow Maitake in a sterile substarte only.
Orientation-side fruiting can grow from the top. Grow on Sawdust 80% and bran 20% or a master mix(Mix of Sawdust and Soy hulls) substrate. The substrate needs to be Sterelised.
Mushroom farms grow them in 3-4 Kg blocks in a grow bag.
When cooked, maitake mushrooms exhibit a rich, earthy, and savory flavor with a rich umami taste. Their flavor has been described as a delightful fusion of woodsy and meaty notes.
