Description
Our 2 kg pre-sterilized, ready-to-use CVG Monotub Mushroom Bulk Substrate is ideal for mushroom monotub cultivation. This substrate is hydrated to field capacity, ensuring optimal moisture content for mushroom growth. This is the most popular substrate used for monotub cultivation.
Coco Coir + Vermiculite + Gypsum (CVG) Substrate: CVG is a popular bulk substrate that combines coco coir and vermiculite. These components offer excellent water retention with minimal nutrition. Gypsum is added for its sulfites and calcium, which supplement the mix and help keep the substrate aerated. Since mushrooms are 90% water, this substrate’s ability to absorb much water is crucial for sustaining mushrooms until the first flush. Sterilization of the substrate dramatically reduces the risk of Trichoderma contamination, a common issue for first-time growers. However, it’s important to note that contamination isn’t completely avoidable if your growing area and processes aren’t clean. Most nutrition for mushroom growth comes from grains added during inoculation, making a higher grain-to-substrate ratio beneficial for substrates like CVG. Rye is theoretically the best-suited grain for this substrate, balancing the missing nutrition, but it tends to dry out quickly and can be challenging for beginners to colonize. Millet is a more manageable alternative, offering easier handling for first-time growers. This CVG Monotub Mushroom Bulk Substrate is often called the best Monotub Substrate.
If you are working with our Grain spawn and do not want to use up all the spawn in one go, inoculated a grain bag with agar or inoculated a substrate bag with grain spawn for which you had to cut open the bag but have no way to seal the bag again consider to have our Large Sealing Bag Clips
Source and Quality of Coco Coir
Our coco coir is sourced from a supplier that washes it free of salts and does not inoculate it with Trichoderma, Leading to faster colonization and fewer chances of contamination.
