Description
Our 2 kg pre-sterilized, ready-to-use Manure Mushroom Bulk Substrate, is ideal for your monotub cultivation. Designed specifically for poop or dung-loving mushrooms, this substrate is hydrated to field capacity, ensuring optimal moisture content for mushroom growth. This substrate can be used with white button mushrooms but will require a pasteurized casing layer.
Manure substrate is an advanced option typically used by experienced growers. It is not recommended for first-time growers as it is highly nutritious, making it susceptible to various types of growth. Even though the substrate is sterile, a high grain ratio (minimum 40%) is recommended to facilitate quick colonization and reduce the chances of contamination. Millet is an excellent grain choice for manure substrate due to its slightly lower nutrition and more inoculation points than rye. For instance, 1 kg of rye might have 3000 kernels, whereas millet, being smaller, might have 8000 kernels in a kg. This higher number of inoculation points in millet allows for a more even spread and faster colonization.
If you are working with our Grain spawn and do not want to use up all the spawn in one go, inoculated a grain bag with agar or inoculated a substrate bag with grain spawn for which you had to cut open the bag but have no way to seal the bag again consider to have our Large Sealing Bag Clips
Why Manure Substrate?
Manure is highly nutritious and is often considered the gold standard among monotube substrates. Its rich nutritional content makes it a superb choice for mushroom cultivation.
Source and Quality of Manure
We source our manure directly from a trusted farm in New South Wales. The manure, primarily horse manure and occasionally cow manure (based on availability), is aged for over a year. This aging process is critical in preparing the manure for use as a substrate, ensuring it contains the right balance of nutrients for optimal mushroom growth.
Composition of the Substrate
The ingredients of our Manure Substrate include sterilized manure, coco coir, vermiculite, and gypsum. This blend creates a balanced environment for mushrooms, providing them with the necessary nutrients and moisture retention capabilities. The addition of coco coir and vermiculite aids in maintaining the substrate’s structure and moisture levels, while gypsum contributes to aeration and adds essential minerals.
